Witches and Trolls

This Saturday we had a nephew who wanted to go caching with us. I chose a cache with a nice story. About a gang in the 16th Century (GC1AEA3 Zwarte Kaat en de Hellenendse Bende). The weather wasn't that good, and it rained when we started. But once we arrived in the forest we didn't get wet that much.

We passed by a little chapel, where we had to find some information to be used for the next coordinates.

And this is the tree that "Zwarte Kaat" the gang-head is buried underneath (it is called the Witch Tree).

Here is Toby on top of what is actually a bat-cave. We didn't spot any bats though. probably to much light.

Inside the cache we found a TB called "grandpa"

We decided to try and find two mystery caches that I solved and where not to far away.
The first one (GCX2NT Have a break)
Logged #170, at 17:45

And the second one (GCTWG7 Soupe du Jour).

And then to make the caching adventure complete we decided to go for a night cache as well (GC1CTN4 Trollenland (Nachtcache))
The dive took more time than the actually cache, but it was a great adventure. Unfortunately when we got back, something went wrong with the transport of the picture to the laptop and we lost the picture.

Inside we found a coin that we took with us:

Week serie

Although we don't go caching a lot during the week, today was such a lovely sunny day that we decided to go for a couple of pick-ups that are close to each other on a nice walking area. These caches are all part of a series of 52 caches that a cacher has hidden one a week in 2008 (that explaine the week number of the caches)
The first one (GC1AZDK Week 15: het schiereiland - hoog en droog)
Logged #166, at 17:00

The second one (GC19TH8 Week 10: het schiereiland – Afslag Helmond)

Logged #16, at 17:15

And the third and last one (GC1BM23 Week 18: het schiereiland – sluis 9)
Logged #168, at 17:30

And as a bonus a lovely picture of the bears sitting side by side.

Lommel Sunday

Yesterday when we drove home we started with the cache (GC1K33XX - Wandeling: een kwestie van centimeters), but since we and the cache owner differ in the terms Length and Width we were looking at the wrong coordinates for the next clue. We discovered this mistake but since it already started to get darker we decided to go home and continue today.

It brought us to a narrow entrance, that we didn't spot yesterday and we had to perform some acrobatics to enter the path, today we just walked through the entrance, and that is much easier.

We walked alongside the official border between the Netherlands and Belgium.

And we passed by different border poles that are quit old.

The weather was nice; the sun was shining although a lot of rain was forecasted.

For this cache we had to measure all kinds of thing, as you can see on the next picture.

We could find the cache and logged it at 13:40, number 161

Next to Lommel again to look for the cache (GC1JG5N - old - timers), which was hidden in a small forest area.

We logged at 14:15, number 162.

And then we went for a middle length multi-cache (GCQZC2 - De Blekerheide), a walk of about 6 KM through a marsh area.

A small carriage was spotted with a dog in front of it as we first thought, but when it got closer we saw that it was actually lead by a little horse instead.

At one way-point we had to do some calculations, so we sat down to relax a little bit.

And then back on track to the cache location.

That we discovered and logged at 16:30, number 163

Inside was a funny tiny flower coin.

Then some time left for a traditional (GC151TF - De Kastanjeboom). Hidden in a very nice tree within a peaceful area.

With the sun still out there we logged at 17:15, number 164

And then the last of this weekend: (GC1J1AZ - Federmesser), a puzzle cache that I solved this morning and that we found in an archaeological area.

Lommel Saturday

For this weekend we decided to go for some caches on the other side of the border in Lommel, Belgum. We solved a couple of the mystery caches and some multi-caches are located there as well.
But first we had to find (GC1K324 - Music & Numbers -7), the cache that we couldn't find last Friday. Now we immediately discovered it, why we couldn't last week we're still wondering, maybe due to the search marks that were visible last week and weren't today.

The boys enjoyed the short walk to the cache location.

Logged at 12:25, number 157

It was a short one indeed, because we had to continue with some other caches

The second one a mystery that I resolved (GCYB36 - DICHTERBIJ DAN OOIT)
We had to find the container near a bench, the container was spotted quick but getting it out wasn't that easy, I had to use my nails to do this.
Logged at 13:40, Number 158

Then we went for a multi cache, halfway that cache we were in the neighbourhood of the calculated location of the msytery (GCT3J5 - Typisch een grensgeval), that we logged at 15:15, Number 159

The multi we were doing was (GC1K3T8 - Zuidelijke rand van de Sahara), it brought us to a nice area we've visited before, but that we still enjoy.

And the bears like the water we pass by.

We logged at 16:40, number 160

Inside a funny coin.

Dagger Mysteries

Today we had some time left to pick up two resolved Dagger Mysteries.
The first one (GC1F8FB - Wie O Wie) was hidden in a tree, and was easy spotted.
We logged at 17:00, number 155.

The second one (GC1CJPR - Nr500) brought us to a little bridge where we had to find a tag with the cache coordinates on it in a very nice spot. At that location a tree was carved.

We've seen carvings like this before in this area and we like them a lot, only we're not sure whether it is harmful to the trees, so yes indeed beautiful but perhaps killing the trees? Anyhow it results in nice pictures.

And the cache was hidden very original and we logged at 18:00, number 156

Rosmalen

Now and then I'm working from our office in Rosmalen, nearby a couple of caches are hidden, one of them a puzzle cache (GC19VRE - Normen en waarden deel I). I figured out the coordinates and in a lunch-break I took some colleagues with me to find the cache.

We logged at 12:45, number 154.
